I've now had over 10,000 hits on the main site since it opened on July 25th 2008 (less than 10 months ago). I'm quite please with that, hopefully it's not all just google bots etc. Just wanted to post it as I feel it's a bit of mile stone

No small feat, congrats. I think you've done a nice job with the site so far. Your collection certainly speaks volumes, but you've done some other really good features that make your site more than just a "Show off your collection" kind of site. Great job, man.

Not wishing to belittle the milestone, but a "hit" is not the same as "visit". Each time someone loads the page, that is a "hit". If I sat there and hit refresh ten times (not that I do), that would be ten hits. You may already know that - but a lot of people don't. :)
I'm sure Google's bot will make up a few of the hits, but Microsoft's spiders -- from my experience -- are the worst for bumping up "hits". They take up far more bandwidth and hit sites many times more than any other spiders I've seen. And to cap it all, their search is nigh-on useless. Go figure.

At the end of the day it's not the sort of website thats ever going to attract lots of traffic and as I don't intend to put advertising on it then I'm just happy to get you guys visiting :)

To find the number of unique visitors, but you need some software which parses/monitors the web-server logs. I doubt that your host will provide those, though.
