Hi guys, just wanted to apologise for hardly ever being around on here. there's a combination of factors at the moment. 1) Trying to save for my own place so not activly collecting/ spending money on SMS items. 2) Been really busy with work, as I work in IT, I get home and just don't feel like going back on my PC again. 3) My home PC moniter is still an LCD telly which is HORRIBLE to use and all pixilated, have to have the resolution really low just to be able to read the forum. In the grand scheme of things I want to keep the blog/ site and forum running and i'm not going to be selling my collection or anyhting drastic like that. It's just a struggle to find time to be contributing as much as i'd like to Hope you guys understand and don't just think i'm abandoning everything. Moving forward I hope to get myself a cheap laptop rather than buy a new monitor for my crappy PC (it's only got 120gb HDD, 512 Ram and AMD 2400 processor, I think you can get a better specced laptop for about £250).

Hey no worries man...life happens! I'm hoping to get my own place at the tail end of this year, so my collecting has dropped off too other than odds and ends here and there. How are you approaching it - big down payment and less of a mortgage, or small lump, big monthly payments? The interest rates sure are good at this time, at least here they are!

I've got a few options really, Were looking at spending between £80,000 and £120,000 on a house. Just depends what we find and what kind of mortgage we get offered etc. Then my prefered method would be to put down £10,000 and the rest on mortgage, which could be either big amounts or just interest only until we settle in (after a year or so). Or get a 100% mortgage and use the £10,000 for deceration and essentials. But first we need to save the £10,000.. I'd not be happy going buying a house with nothing saved. I'm getting there though, unless I lose my job or anyhting like that we should be good to go for early next year. I find it quite scary but at the same time exciting. really looking forward to be able to just have my own space to have how I (we) want it

And they say living in the UK is expensive! Because I am in a big city the prices are pretty insane - for me, that's the kind of down payment I am looking to have for a starter $300,000 home. I really need to start meeting with realtors, lawyers, banks, etc. to try and start putting together a game plan. I've just been saving these last few years and now that I have something I'm trying to make a plan. I'm the kind of person who has never gone into debt, used credit, etc. so the prospect of looking at a $220,000 debt is pretty daunting. But yeah, it's totally exciting to think I'll have my own place and won't have to relegate my video game collection to my closet! Sounds like you have a level headed plan, you'll be in good shape. I totally think waiting until the fall/winter will be a better time to buy than right now...everyone selling their houses to get out before the winter, people not wanting to buy because of the prospect of moving in during the winter, etc.

No need for apologies, everyone has a real life to live as well as an on line one . Good luck with the house. Quick tip: make sure your missus understands that the spare room is going to be a games room before buying. Remember, while you're dreaming of a games room your partner probably has ideas of her own, walk in wardrobe anyone ;D. Fixed that bit there for you

Update -
Still not got much time for Sega collecting.
However, due to promotion I have a lap top. Home PC is actually broken but I need to get it sorted as it's got 1000's of Sega pics on the HDD. I'm hoping it's just a psu issue.
Still not got my own place but been saving for a deposit and looking around at houses. Hopfully have moved by or during this summer.
Just can't wait to set up all my collection in my own place. It's going to get the 2nd bedroom so i'm keeping that in mind when looking at property.

Good luck rupert, I bought my first place at the back end of last year and so my collecting has been really limited lately too. The plan at the moment is to rent out the second bedroom to help out with the bills, but longer-term I can't wait to get it set up as a games room.

Just dropping by to say hi incase anyone ever comes here anymore?
I've got my own place now, moved in march actually, however buying didn't work out so I'm renting. It's a really nice place though, all brand new inside, detached, 3 bedrooms. My collection is in the 2nd bedroom, however it's not all set out how I want it. The games are all in shelving but everything else is boxed up for now.
I see the forum hasnt been used much, i dont blame you to be honest, I don't want to just get rid of the forum as I still have a great interest and fondness in the hobby just not much time to spend on it.
Hopefully in the future I'll get back involved in updating the forum and the blog/ site. Still have some half written articles in draft I want to finish and other ideas to add.
I'll post back again soon.

Glad you're settled in . I still pop in here once a week, hoping to find you've posted part 2 of the German variations article. I like hardware articles!
